Matthew Schlein founded Walden Project and Willowell Foundation in the same breath 21 years ago in Monkton, VT, after teaching at Vergennes Union High School for 6 years. Walden Project is an outdoor alternative public education program that takes place on the 230-acrea Willowell preserve in Monkton. Modeled on Henry David Thoreau’s book ‘Walden’ and the author’s two-year moved to Walden Pond, educator Matthew Schlein begins every morning reading a passage from Thoreau. Cat was the producer, videographer, editor, writer and voice over talent.

Kia’Rae Hanron works full-time for Clemmons Family Farm in Charlotte, VT, and is writing curriculum for ‘Windows to a Multicultural World,’ a K-12 online learning platform being created by Black artists and educators to teach African-American and African Diaspora history through arts engagements. Hanron says its a dream job. Cat was the producer, videographer, editor, writer and voice over talent.

With Mother’s Day coming up, let’s shine the spotlight on Williston, VT, resident Theresa Tomasi who is the mother of 27 children. At 91, she broke through many adoption barriers in the early 60’s adopting as a single woman and more barriers in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s adopting as an older parent. The kids grew up on 50 acres of land in the heart of a suburban neighborhood in Williston with horses, mini horses, pigs, chickens, and even peacocks. They helped care for the animals and each other. Cat was the producer, videographer, editor, writer and voice over talent.

University of Vermont Cancer Center members Alissa Thomas, M.D., a neurologist and neuro-oncologist, and Delphine Quenet, Ph.D., a basic science researcher and assistant professor in the department of biochemistry, are researching glioblastoma, a rare but deadly brain cancer.
