Oswald Gomez, Ms. Colombia, 2008
Words and photos by Cat Cutillo
Nearly every day for the past 20 years, Oswald Gomez has pedaled his bike to Roosevelt Avenue in Jackson Heights, Queens, to perform for the public as “Ms. Colombia.” Gomez’ dog, Marino, which means “candy” in Spanish, often comes along for the ride and is also part of the dance performance.
“I like to entertain people. I’m from Colombia and I like to make people happy,” Gomez said.
Gomez performs in locations throughout Queens, including nursing homes and hospitals in Jackson Heights and the Rockaways.
